What to know: Steering Stabilizers

A steering stabilizer upgrade is one of the most valuable aftermarket solutions for your solid axle vehicle. Definition

At FOX, we produce aftermarket options to replace and enhance your vehicles suspension. Our steering stabilizer options are no exception. A steering stabilizer is a damper for your steering system that slows down motion translated by the user & road. Controlling motion and helping to eliminate shakes while help absorb forces during impacts. Typically, you will find replacement steering stabilizers from FOX for vehicles with a front solid axle as compared to a Independent front suspension (IFS). Steering stabilizers are helpful as they take the load off other components.

Upgrading with steering stabilizers

If you are looking to upgrade your rig with bigger tires, taller lift package, or tacking on excessive weight, there’s a good chance that you need a steering stabilizer. Increasing the weight of the vehicle and changing the center of mass will change how your vehicle responds.

While not increasing the mass of the vehicle directly, towing can add additional strains on your steering components, so if you feel you If you feel your steering is not as crisp or your stock stabilizer has gone out, you definitely need one to ensure precise steering.

Regardless of your situation, a steering stabilizer is one of the best bang for buck upgrades you can do to a vehicle.

Different types of steering stabilizers

Like our shocks, they are designed around different use cases and different levels of performance. Giving users the option to fit a stabilizer to the vehicle that matches their ambitions and expectations.

IFP (Internal Floating Piston) Stabilizers are our entry level offering. With a durable and corrosion free 2.0 diameter aluminum body, these are perfect for those looking to have a quick and easy bolt-on upgrade to their driving experience.

TS (Through Shaft) Stabilizers share many of the same qualities as our IFP stabilizers but with a twist. As the stabilizers move through their stroke, their shaft will displace oil. By allowing the shaft to move freely, we eliminate this binding.

ATS (Adjustable Through Shaft) Stabilizers are ready for any and all adventures. With an extexternal reservoir for additional oil displacment and cooling, this thru shaft design is further aided by an external adjustment. By turn of a screw driver, you can adjust how much force it takes to move the shaft in either direction to ensure the feeling is just right.

With that all being said, which one is the right one for you? It depends on what you are looking to do with your vehicle and the level of adjustability you are looking for.

Tuning of Stabilizers:

Dampers are not a one size, one tune, fits all. Each product FOX produces is designed and tuned specifically for a given application. Steering stabilizers are no exception to this, our engineers will adapt their process to whatever product they work on. Specifically for steering stabilizers, our team focuses on ensuring the damping curve is consistent and there is no lag. If there is lag, that means that the shaft of the stabilizer is moving but not providing enough damping.
